In 1999, in Sierra Leone, fisherman Solomon Vandi dreamed of his youngest son Dia Vandi becoming a doctor. When the rebels invaded his village and kidnapped him to work in the diamond mine, his dream was shattered. Solomon found a huge pink diamond. When hiding it, the rebel commander saw it, but the rebels were attacked and Solomon was arrested by government forces. In the prison, the injured commander told the prisoner that Solomon had found the stone. Danny Archer, a mercenary smuggler from Zimbabwe, released Solomon and proposed to exchange the diamond for his missing family. Danny used the idealistic American journalist Maddy Bowen to place Solomon's wife and daughter in a refugee camp, but was told that the rebels had recruited their son. Solomon and Danny strengthened their partnership. Solomon sought and found his son, and Danny searched for diamonds and found salvation.
